augmented reality on windows mobile

Jul 22nd, 2010 | permalink: augmented reality on windows mobile | Category: Technology

windows mobile augmented reality, based on a client server concept. Windows Pda sends camera stream via wifi to a server, and simultaneously receives the augmented visuals back via Windows Media Streaming technology. This is then opened via windows media player application on the pda. At the moment latency is around 6 to 7 seconds. This shows how live AR can be implemented on PDAs for group exploration (where one person is the “pilot” and a large number of visitors switch on their mobile phones and tune into the broadcast from the windows media streaming server) until such a time when GPU and CPU power increase on portable devices.

  1. Live latency of video is around 6 – 7 seconds on the PDA due to windows media streaming the augmented stream – read more on the “more info” button on the right on this video.

  2. fake …

  3. Khalidus, He isn’t fake. Augmented reality It’s real!

  4. Nice idea to use streaming, You ought to look into how those Second Life & Warcraft streaming clients push so much PC based data.

  5. really cool, imagine playin’ warcraft with this and say, look, there is a orc in ma table,-orc,get your ass outta my table!!!!

  6. indeed it is, i think other technology could benefit from a client server setup, for instance, a robot could be more intelligent because a server in the basement is doing the hard work. i can’t wait until augmented reality is mainstream (which im sure it will be)

  7. Nice vidoe but that music sounds like Old School Porn movies lol.

  8. @lowtone10 hey have you bought a bag of Doritos lately? There’s AR markers for their website on them now. Woot woot, u & I both totally called it. Also the General Electric AR site is pretty nifty too, though only a gimmick.

  9. you know it’s probably not too insanely difficult to do this sort of streaming setup ourselves. Once I wrap my brain around the nuts & bolts of one of these AR programs I’m going to have to see if I can’t try this.

  10. thanks for the tip, ill have to check that out :)

  11. cool. but this music???? seriously?

  12. lol.. you guys watch too much pron! :-)

  13. The new NVidia mobile device has the power to run AugR. check it out.
